About Us

History

The Sierra Nevada Mining and Industry Council (SNMIC) formed in 1989. It has been a voice for the mining and industry in Nevada County since that time and has worked to educate the public and government about mining and industry and helped to preserve the mining and resource history of Nevada County.

Mission

The goals of the Sierra Nevada Mining and Industry Council (SNMIC) are as follows:

1. Work with governmental agencies to preserve and protect our rights pertaining to the use and development of our natural resources.

2. Inform various governmental agencies and officials of the needs of mining and industry pertaining to the use and development of our natural resources.

3. Inform the members and the interested public of the pending legislation which will affect our rights pertaining to the use and development of our natural resources.

4. Educate youth, in whose hands rests the future development of our natural resources.

5. Oppose the unreasonable withdrawal of public lands from multiple use.

6. Support our members who may be involved in legal issues pertaining to the right to use and/or develop our natural resources, and provide them with information or other assistance in their cause.

7. Encourage the responsible development of our natural resources.

8. Promote and support the preservation of the Mining Law of 1872.
